A Submarine Odyssey with PHOCTOPUS & Wallacea

August 2023. The Seahorse, Wallacea Dive Cruise’s majestic traditional sailing vessel, awaits us in Sorong, Indonesia. Excitement is in the air: PHOCTOPUS is launching a brand-new section dedicated to travel and diving stories in Indonesia — and what better way to kick things off than with an extraordinary expedition?

We set sail toward the mythical Raja Ampat archipelago. Here, the sea is a mosaic of endless blues, and beneath the surface lies a thriving world: graceful mantas gliding by, dazzling schools of tropical fish, corals in extravagant shapes. Each dive feels like stepping into a living painting.

After several days of navigation, we reach Halmahera. Wild and pristine, this region offers us intimate dives, far from the crowds, where adventure takes on its full meaning.

Then comes Ternate, dominated by its majestic volcanoes. The underwater landscapes here are just as fascinating as those above.

Finally, after fifteen days at sea, we arrive in Manado. There we rediscover the legendary Lembeh Strait, the kingdom of muck diving. In this dark and mysterious setting hide the most astonishing creatures: pygmy seahorses, frogfish, nudibranchs in improbable colors. A true playground for underwater photography enthusiasts.
